you or someone you know love wildlife,
especially eagles, hawks, or owls?
Here's an opportunity to give yourself, or someone else, a special gift from the Audubon Center of the North Woods that will help impact the lives of all of our educational, injured and orphaned animals that visit or stay in the wildlife barn.
Your adoption fees will go towards:
- Food
- Housing
- Medical care
- Educational program
When you adopt a raptor from the Audubon Center you will receive:
- Framed 5x7 photograph of your adopted bird
- An adoption certificate
- Natural history sheet of your adopted bird
- Personal history sheet of your adopted bird
- Recognition in the ACNW newsletter “News from the Northwoods”
- A tour to of the Audubon Center to meet your adopted bird in person
Meet
Our Educational Raptors
All of the
center's raptors have permanent injuries that deem
them non-releasable. Each of the raptors now live permanently
at
the center acting as ambassadors for their species.
Nero
|
Species: American Kestrel
Sex: Male
Name: Nero
Age: Hatched in 2005
Weight: 110g or ~4 oz
Injury: Human imprint
Fun Fact: Nero was named for another male kestrel. John James Audubon kept a male kestrel that was a human imprint and named him Nero

Isis

Species: American Kestrel
Sex: Female
Name: Isis
Age: Hatched in 2008
Weight: 124g or ~4.5 oz
Injury: Human imprint
Fun Fact: Isis was named from Eqyptian mythology. Isis was the mother of Horus, who had the body of a man and the head of a falcon.

Species: Eastern Screech Owl (red phase)
Sex: Unknown
Name: Ciça
Age: Hatched in 2003
Weight: 145g or ~ 5 oz.
Injury: Head injury, very slow making decisions
Fun Fact: Ciça is named for a former intern from Brazil who had a passion for Screech Owls.

Species: Barred Owl
Sex: Female
Name: Athena
Age: Hatched in 1994
Weight: 900g or ~2 pounds
Injury: Likely hit by a car, left wing fracture
Fun Fact: In the winter of 2003, Athena attracted a wild male Barred owl that would visit with her at night and hoot back and forth. Athena eventually laid an unfertilized egg.

Species: Great Horned Owl
Sex: Male
Name: Cleo
Age: Hatched in 1991
Weight: 1400g or ~3 pounds
Injury: Hit by a car, Fractured left humerus, ulna, radius and retinal hemorrhages (ie broken left wing and eye damage).
Fun Fact: Since the difference between males and females in raptors is in there size and females are larger, Cleo was originally thought to be a girl, but his low voice proves he is just a big boy

Species: Red-tailed Hawk
Sex: Female
Name: Dakota
Age: Hatched in 1991
Weight: 1450g or ~3 pounds
Injury: Fractured left wing by shotgun shot.
Fun Fact: When Dakota wants attention she will occasionally try new behavior like jumping and doing a 360 and landing on the perch or quacking like a duck.

Species: Bald Eagle
Sex: Male
Name: Woody
Age: Hatched in 1993
Weight: 3400g or ~7.5 pounds
Injury: Woody’s nest was knocked to ground during a storm and he suffered extensive
Fun Fact: Woody loves to bathe after every meal in the warm weather months.
