Native American Drum &
Flute Making Workshop

Sunday, June 1, 2008
9 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.

Come join us as Lakota George Estes shows us how to handcraft our own Lakota-style hand drums and flutes. Then, following dinner, he will lead a music session as he teaches us how to play the beautiful instruments we just created and guides us through a group practice session!

Enjoy the entire day-long workshop (with lunch and dinner) or you may opt for just the morning or afternoon session, making just one of the instruments.

Morning session:
9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. - Lakota-style drum making workshop

Make an elkhide beater drum of your own in the time-honored Lakota fashion (practice with Lakota George after dinner) - beautiful, durable, authentic. Lakota George Estes was taught by his Grandfather how to make these fun instruments and now he is passing this craft on to us. These quality drums are used in Sweat Lodges, Dances, Meditations... around the World

Lunch 12:30 - 1:15 p.m.

Afternoon session:
1:30 - 5:30 p.m. - Lakota-style flute making workshop

Make a 5- or 6-hole wood flute of your own in the time-honored Lakota fashion (practice with Lakota George after dinner) - Lakota George is a 3rd generation master craftsman. These wonderful instruments create hauntingly beautiful music.

Dinner 5:30-6:15

Our Mission:
To protect, improve and promote the enjoyment of the
natural environment through formal and informal
education programs and research; to assist and encourage
environmental education programs, centers, and careers.
Our Vision:
The environment is the blackboard for the Center's educational programs; the common ground that brings us together with the natural world and people from around the globe to share our concerns for one another and the future. It is through positive and shared experience that we hope we can affect the values and actions of our people to create a world of harmonious diversity.
