Renewable Energy &
NOAA Weather Station at the Audubon Center

Renewable Energy Systems
at ACNW

The Audubon Center has made it a top priority to "practice what we preach". Through grants, creative thinking and generous help and teamwork, the Audubon Center has implemented a great variety of renewable energy sources including a geo-thermal heat pump system, solar PV arrays, solar hot water heating, solar air heat, and a wind generator. With these changes the Center has drastically reduced its dependence of fossil fuel sources of energy and proudly sets an example of what can be done to lessen our human impact of this earth.

If you've visited us lately, you are probably wondering what that strange looking apparatus is in the field to the south of our driveway. It's our new NOAA Climate Weather Station, which measures:

  • Air temperature
  • Precipitation
  • Solar radiation
  • Wind speed
  • Surface temperature
  • Relative humidity
What is our Sustainable Energy Campaign?

View our Sustainable Energy Campaign - a document which summarizes initiatives we have or will be pursuing in expanding our renewable energy capacity and reach our goal of reducing our carbon footprint by 80% within 10 years.

The Audubon Center of the North Woods (ACNW) is proud to be a part of EarthSense Alliance—a collaborative project of six accredited Minnesota Residential Environmental Learning Centers (RELCs). This campaign is a sustainability intiative to reduce and ultimately eliminate, where possible, the six centers’ collective CO2 contribution to climate change.
