Ways to Support ACNW
We believe that a healthy environment starts with and is perpetuated by a personal connection to it, and ACNW is and has been committed to that goal for nearly 50 years. By working with all ages and audiences, we create leaders in the environmental field, spanning generations, disciplines, and the globe.
ACNW was created in 1968 by a wonderful bequest, grew through donor support, and continues to depend on the generosity of our supporters to help us carry out our important work, including—
- Educating and fostering environmental stewardship in thousands of K12 students annually
- Residential and day programs
- Wildlife education
- Enhancements for wildlife
- Wetland and prairie restoration
- Renewable energy systems and energy conservation
- Community events
We are a 501(c)3 organization. All donations are tax deductible. Tax ID (EIN): 23-7044164.

Or you can mail your contribution, including any special instructions, to Audubon Center of the North Woods, PO Box 530, Sandstone, MN 55072
By credit card
You can set up a sustaining contribution charged monthly to your credit or debit card by using our online giving system. On the online form, simply select “I want to contribute this amount every month (or year).”
[If you prefer not to use our online system, you can click here to use the form to authorize recurring credit/debit card payments.]
By bank withdrawal
Making your monthly sustaining contribution by automatic withdrawal from your bank account has the added benefit of lower our processing costs, so more of your gift goes to support ACNW programs. Click here to download a fillable, printable form to authorize automatic withdrawals from your bank account.
A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD), also know as an IRA rollover gift, allows donors 70½ or older to transfer up to $100,000 directly from their IRA to charities like ACNW each year. An IRA rollover gift is a tax-exempt distribution. Qualifying individuals can make charitable gifts using pre-tax IRA assets rather than taking a taxable direct distribution. An IRA rollover gift can be used to meet all or part of an IRA required minimum distribution.
By making a gift to ACNW using appreciated securities, you avoid capital gains tax on the appreciation of the donated asset and may benefit from claiming an income tax deduction for the fair market value of the donation.
For information about transferring securities from your brokerage or investment account to Audubon Center of the North Woods, please contact Jim DeYoung, Development Director, 320-245-7791.
If your ACNW contribution qualifies for a company match, request a matching gift form from your employer and send it completed and signed with your gift, or use your company’s online match request system. We will do the rest.
Planned giving is a unique charitable tool that allows you to support ACNW’s important work for many years to come while also fulfilling your own financial goals and objectives. The Audubon Center of the North Woods Legacy Society was established to recognize generous individuals who have included or plan to include ACNW in their estate planning, through a bequest, life-insurance gift, or other planned gift. Legacy Society members are among ACNW’s most valued supporters.
You can make a memorial or honorary gift online or by mail, addressed to Audubon Center of the North Woods, P.O. Box 530, Sandstone, MN 55072. Please include the name and address of the person being recognized or, if the gift is a memorial, the name and address of the family member or the designated representative of the person being recognized. Please contact Jim DeYoung, Development Director (320-245-7791, email@example.com), for special gift designation opportunities if your gift is $2,500 or greater.
Establishing an endowed fund in your name or to honor a loved one can be done through a single gift of $10,000 or more, allowing for immediate distributions for the purpose designated in the fund agreement. If funded by smaller gifts over several years, distributions will begin when the fund reaches a balance of $10,000.
A named fund can also be a planned gift. Through your estate plans, you can create a fund that will support the Audubon Center’s mission in perpetuity.
