Saturday – Jackie Fallon, The Midwest Peregrine Restoration Effort

Birding Bonanza 2015 Keynote Speaker Jackie Fallon

The Midwest Peregrine Restoration Effort was launched after their near eradication in the 1950-1960s. Even though not on the endangered species list anymore, peregrines are still monitored to ensure continued survival. The information collected is valuable, not only to peregrine falcons, but other raptor populations and wildlife recovery programs. Jackie Fallon, Vice President of Field Operations for the Midwest Peregrine Society, is a long-time volunteer for The Raptor Center at the University of Minnesota and also a former zookeeper at the Minnesota Zoo in Apple Valley, MN. During that time, she became fascinated with peregrine falcons and the restoration project. She monitors 40 nesting sites, identifying breeding adults, determining nesting success, banding and collecting biological samples from any chicks produced.
